Product Overview

Faithfully rendered in durable vinyl, Empire Recycled Ceiling Tiles are timelessly detailed... and now they're 100% recycled!

Faithfully rendered in durable vinyl, Empire Ceiling Tiles are timelessly detailed. Made from our Signature Series 0.030 in. thick vinyl plastic, they are thermoformed from molds based on original, hand-crafted tin ceiling tile designs and will add a decorative focal point sure to get people talking.

All of our Signature Series tiles are Class A fire rated, 100% recyclable, completely waterproof, Greenguard Gold Certified for indoor air quality, and made in the USA. For the look of plaster or tin, with the flexibility, durability, and versatility of vinyl - look no further!

In addition to providing the ultimate in sustainability, our new random gray material has all of the features of our other colors and at a reduced cost! It also gives you a unique design opportunity - because this material is made from 100% post-manufacturing scrap, the color (while always some shade of gray) is truly random as it is determined by the material that is recycled. The color tends to be a light "charcoal", but it can shift from dark to light, from batch to batch, and even within a single order, ensuring your ceiling will be unlike any other.

Can these be cut for light cans? Also I wanted to buy extra Incase any get damaged. Do you take returns? Is there a shipping cost if so?

Asked by: Giaimo
Yes, most Ceilume ceiling tiles can be cut for the installation of can lights although some of the 3-dimensional shapes may prevent the trim ring from sitting flush against the tile once cut. For can light installation, you may want to consider the Evangeline style which is similar to the Empire but has a larger dimension circle making for an easier fit for your trim rings. You can watch a short video about can light installation by clicking this link: https://www.youtube.com/embed/buunelCfJXY?rel=0&autoplay=1 Ceilume does take returns but there is a 35% return fee and you would need to pay for the return shipping. To offset that, we do waive our 25 tile minimum order requirement for returning customers that need "just a few more tiles" to complete their installation.

How do they do on ceiling above the stove?

Asked by: Jean
All Ceilume ceiling tiles carry this warning: "Not recommended for installation where ceiling temperatures exceed 120°F" A properly vented residential stove should not create excessive heat at the ceiling but prior to installation of Ceilume tiles, you should test the ceiling temperature under normal cooking conditions to make sure the temperature is below 120°F.

I am familiar with (and love!) your products. I have used the Stratford tiles and was able to cut them and work with them easily for the edges of rooms where the tiles are not the standard 2 x 2. I assume that these tiles can also be cut easily?

Asked by: Steph
The Empire tile has a strong 3-dimensional profile; it projects down from the ceiling by .92". Because of that 3-dimensional profile it can only be installed as a full 2x2 tile. For the areas at the perimeter of the space, you'll need to use one of our "border tiles" that will sit flush in the grid even when cut down from their full size. The Continental or Fleur-de-lis are the most popular partners for use with the Empire. You can view all of the border tiles here: https://www.ceilume.com/products/border/2x2/signature/white-ceiling-tiles/ Since these tiles are a bit over twice the thickness of the Stratford, you can cut them with scissors but your hands will be happier if you cut them using a pair of straight bladed snips.

Will the ceiling tiles melt if next to radiant heaters that comes down from the ceiling that you would normally have in a vintage garage shop? The radiant heater is about a foot down from the ceiling with a reflector above it between it and the ceiling.

Asked by: Jason and Nisa
The Empire tile (and all Ceilume ceiling tiles) carries the following warning: "Not recommended for installation where ceiling temperatures exceed 120°F" A radiant heater could easily create ceiling temperatures above 120°F so we would not recommend the Empire for your installation.

The circle in the empire tile, what is the diameter? I was thinking of putting round led recessed light in the middle. Also do you offer samples of the colors?

Asked by: Carolyn
The inner diameter of the Empire's design is 4-3/8" and the outer diameter is 9-3/8". For can light installation, the Evangeline may be a better choice as the inner diameter of the design is 8-1/2" which allows for the trim ring of a 6" can light to sit flush within that design.
