Do you sell these ceiling tiles in a smaller quantity. We have a very small bathroom with a drop ceiling and only need 12 tiles.

Asked by: Sharon
Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation is a non-woven polyester material that is intended to be placed on top of ceiling tiles to improve their acoustic and thermal performance. It is not meant for use as a stand-alone ceiling tile and can not be placed in a ceiling grid by itself. Please give Ceilume a call at 800-557-0654 to discuss which ceiling tiles might be a good fit for your bathroom project. We're here Monday - Friday from 7:00 am - 4:30 pm PST.

Are these tiles fireproof?  I’m worried about putting them over lighting or speakers with wires and resisters.

Asked by: Paul
All Ceilume ceiling tiles and Ceilume Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation are Class A fire rated. They are not "fire proof" in that they can't be used as part of a 1 hour or 2 hour fire rated assembly. They can be used in conjunction with properly installed recessed can lights. Please call Ceilume at 800-557-0654 with any other installation questions.

Hi there, I have a spin studio in an old building with acoustic drop down ceiling tiles (2x4). I need to mitigate my sound from going into the adjacent neighbors. Will this product keep my sound IN my dedicated room?

Asked by: Anonymous
There are a lot of factors that go into sound attenuation both in the room (signified by NRC ratings) and sound going to your neighbors (STC). When used with Ceilume's Feather-Light ceiling tiles the Soniguard provides an NRC of .50 and an STC of 13. Please give Ceilume a call at 800-557-0654 to discuss your specific installation and conditions. We're here Monday - Friday from 7:00 am - 4:30 pm PST

Can soniguard insulation make contact with recessed lights?

Asked by: Nick
Building code requires that all can lights be supported by the ceiling grid or structure above. If you're planning on using Soniguard, you should look for can light housings that are suitable for contact with insulation. These are typically listed as IC rated (Insulation Contact).

What if you have 2 by 4 ceiling tiles....do you sell this size

Asked by: Bjb
For ease of handling and lower shipping costs, the Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation is only available in the24" x 24" size. You'd need to purchase 2 pieces of the Soniguard insulation for each 2x4 tile.

Is the Soniguard dropped ceiling insulation tile equally effective placed on non Ceilume ceiling tiles, e.g. Armstrong dropped ceiling tiles as on top of Ceilume ceiling tiles for noise reduction or does is matter which brand the Soniguard is placed on?

Asked by: JB74
Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation was created and tested with use above Ceilume Ceiling Tiles. All of our test data was created with that use in mind. Because there are literally hundreds of different mineral fiber tiles available with a wide range of inherent NRC/STC levels, there is no way to provide specific test data for all examples. It is likely that a thicker, heavier insulating material would work better for mineral fiber tiles which can withstand that insulation's heavier weight.

Does putting two on top of each dropped ceiling tile reduce the noise even further and/or increase cooling/heating effect and/or is it safe to do so?

Asked by: JB74
Adding a second piece of Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation to your ceiling will increase thermal insulation and STC (sound that carries from one room to another) but may not add noticeable NRC (in-room sound reduction). There are a lot of variables that can effect all 3 factors. Please give Ceilume a call at 800-557-0654 to discuss your specific installation.

Can I use soniguard to soundproof a walk in closet(walls and ceiling) or it is exclusively for ceilings?

Asked by: Serg
Ceilume's Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation is a non-woven polyester insulation and is not suitable for stand-alone installation on walls or ceilings. It's intended to be installed on top of a ceiling tile to add additional acoustic and thermal insulation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I got Ceilume drop-ceiling insulation, and it's *awesome!*. I liked it so much I got a second order for another room. I got it for sound insulation, and while I'm happy that I was cautioned it wouldn't give much sound suppression from neighboring offices (to keep my expectations modest), it's at least a 50% reduction in sound... probably closer to 60-70%. It's particularly good with higher frequencies, which tend to penetrate walls more. I can no longer make out the content of words in my neighbors' conversations; it's just a muffled sound of voices. I've told my landlord about it, and they may use it for other offices with noise problems. It proved to be a very cost-effective, and so far effective, solution. Five out of five!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I just wanted to tell you how very pleased I am with the soniguard insulation. You were very cautious in advising me, but I find that my unscientific assessment is about a 50% reduction in noise from adjacent rooms, despite this being insulation installed over the ceiling! I'm beginning to wonder how this compares to pink fiberglass in terms of heat insulation and cost... Any idea? Anyway, thanks again--it's rare that you're much more pleased than you thought you'd be when you bought a product. Very cost-effective versus competition, too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We installed the Ceilume ceiling in a reception room at our church. We have gotten so many compliments on the look of the ceiling and folks are so happy with the reduced sound with the soniguard, that we will be purchasing more of the Stratford latte tiles in the near future. The reception room still needs to be furnished, but when it is, will take photos and forward them. Several folks have asked for your website, and I have told them how very easy installation is- am a 62 yr old handy-lady and did the install on existing grid myself, in a day. Keep up the good work!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A one product. After purchasing Ceilume tiles along with the insulation panel we had a relatively easy installation! There were a few learning curves such as how to install can lights and speakers. But found ways to incorporate this modification. Trimming an cutting tiles was easily accomplished with a very fine finished look. Thanks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Nice Im happy with the soniguard tikes but 1 thing... The square needs to be a little smaller so it can fit correctly into the vinyl tile. Its a little big so you either have to cut every square (and they are hard to cut) or just lay them on top, overlapping each other - so we chose the latter.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Insulation sound barrier I purchased this product to eliminate or dramatically reduce the sound transfer from one office to the next. It is being reported that there is little to no difference now that they have been installed. The only locations that the product was not installed is over 2-2x4 lights.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to work with I installed this when I replaced an older acoustic drop ceiling in a basement. The old tiles were stained and sagging. I hope that this product will suppress the sound between floors. Its very easy to work with and cut. At $1.79 sq/ft its not inexpensive
