Can I use soniguard to soundproof a walk in closet(walls and ceiling) or it is exclusively for ceilings?

Asked by: Serg
Ceilume's Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation is a non-woven polyester insulation and is not suitable for stand-alone installation on walls or ceilings. It's intended to be installed on top of a ceiling tile to add additional acoustic and thermal insulation.

Can this be used with the snap clip or the embassy drop ceiling kits?

Asked by: Sandi
Provided you have at least 2" of clearance between the top of the ceiling tiles and the bottom of your floor joists, then the Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation will work with either of those systems.

I need 27 pieces. Is that possible or do I have to leave 2 tiled uninsulated?

Asked by: Sam963
Ceilume sells the Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation by the piece. There is a minimum order size of 25 pieces, but as long as you're ordering more than 25 pieces you can order the exact number you need for your project. We don't want to leave those 2 tiles uninsulated!

If you are to use the soniguard tiles on say - every other one or every 2 in about a 2000 sq ft basement - I realize it won't have the exact effect...but will it still minimize the sound well enough?

Asked by: jda
There's an old song that says "A little bit of something is better than all of nothing". intuitively we know that installing Soniguard in every other square of your ceiling layout will help with sound reduction, but we don't have actual test results to quantify exactly what the level of NRC would be in a space with that installation.

What is the R value of the drop ceiling tile

Asked by: Eddie
Ceilume ceiling tiles have very little R-value on their own. Adding Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation increases their R value to R-6.0.

Are these tile plenum rated?

Asked by: Grant Co
Ceilume's Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation is intended to be installed on top of ceiling tiles to add additional acoustic and thermal insulation to an existing or new ceiling tile. Ceilume's IAPMO ER-310 specifically excludes the use of Ceilume ceiling tiles in a ceiling that is using the space above as a plenum air return. There are no such restrictions placed on the Soniguard Insulation however, Soniguard has not been specifically rated or tested for use in a plenum.

What is theNRC OR STC

Asked by: Lsuri
The Soniguard Drop Ceiling Acoustic Insulation is made of a nonwoven, bonded polyester that is meant to be installed on top of a Ceilume ceiling tile. Since it can't be installed by itself, we do not have NRC or STC ratings for the Soniguard as a stand alone item. Ceilume's Feather-Light tiles (.013" thick) have an NRC of .25 and an STC of 10 when installed by themselves. When installed with Soniguard, the NRC is .50 and the STC is 13. Ceilume's Signature tiles (.030" thick) have an NRC of .15 and an STC of 15 when installed by themselves. When installed with Soniguard, the NRC is .30 and the STC is 18.

What do you recommend for can light fixtures with respect to installation? Any with holes already cut in the middle?

Asked by: Darrell
Soniguard can be cut using a sharp pair of scissors. When installing Soniguard above a ceiling tile that has a can light fixture in place, you will want to cut a large enough hole to fit around the entire fixture, not just the 4-6" opening. This will allow the can light to sit properly above the tile without deforming the tile. We do not recommend using Soniguard with any fixture that uses a Halogen light bulb. Ceilume does not offer any Soniguard with pre-cut holes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I got Ceilume drop-ceiling insulation, and it's *awesome!*. I liked it so much I got a second order for another room. I got it for sound insulation, and while I'm happy that I was cautioned it wouldn't give much sound suppression from neighboring offices (to keep my expectations modest), it's at least a 50% reduction in sound... probably closer to 60-70%. It's particularly good with higher frequencies, which tend to penetrate walls more. I can no longer make out the content of words in my neighbors' conversations; it's just a muffled sound of voices. I've told my landlord about it, and they may use it for other offices with noise problems. It proved to be a very cost-effective, and so far effective, solution. Five out of five!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I just wanted to tell you how very pleased I am with the soniguard insulation. You were very cautious in advising me, but I find that my unscientific assessment is about a 50% reduction in noise from adjacent rooms, despite this being insulation installed over the ceiling! I'm beginning to wonder how this compares to pink fiberglass in terms of heat insulation and cost... Any idea? Anyway, thanks again--it's rare that you're much more pleased than you thought you'd be when you bought a product. Very cost-effective versus competition, too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We installed the Ceilume ceiling in a reception room at our church. We have gotten so many compliments on the look of the ceiling and folks are so happy with the reduced sound with the soniguard, that we will be purchasing more of the Stratford latte tiles in the near future. The reception room still needs to be furnished, but when it is, will take photos and forward them. Several folks have asked for your website, and I have told them how very easy installation is- am a 62 yr old handy-lady and did the install on existing grid myself, in a day. Keep up the good work!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A one product. After purchasing Ceilume tiles along with the insulation panel we had a relatively easy installation! There were a few learning curves such as how to install can lights and speakers. But found ways to incorporate this modification. Trimming an cutting tiles was easily accomplished with a very fine finished look. Thanks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Nice Im happy with the soniguard tikes but 1 thing... The square needs to be a little smaller so it can fit correctly into the vinyl tile. Its a little big so you either have to cut every square (and they are hard to cut) or just lay them on top, overlapping each other - so we chose the latter.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Insulation sound barrier I purchased this product to eliminate or dramatically reduce the sound transfer from one office to the next. It is being reported that there is little to no difference now that they have been installed. The only locations that the product was not installed is over 2-2x4 lights.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to work with I installed this when I replaced an older acoustic drop ceiling in a basement. The old tiles were stained and sagging. I hope that this product will suppress the sound between floors. Its very easy to work with and cut. At $1.79 sq/ft its not inexpensive
