To confirm I can place 9" fiberglass batts on the Cambridge tiles

Asked by: Jerry
While Ceilume ceiling tiles have been tested for durability and fire safety when used with Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation, we have not been tested for use with 9" batt insulation. If there are floor joists directly above your suspended ceiling, the suggested method of installation would be to install the batts between the joists above rather than directly on the Cambridge tiles. If you'd like to receive a free full-sized sample of the Cambridge tile to make sure it will work with your insulation, give Ceilume a call at 800-557-0654. We're here Monday through Friday from 7:00 am 4:30 pm PST.

Can these tiles be glued directly to cover popcorn ceiling?

Asked by: Ck83
Ceilume does not recommend gluing any of our ceiling tiles directly to a popcorn finished ceiling. The uneven nature of the popcorn finish makes a poor substrate for glue-up installations and will result in an uneven or lumpy appearing finished ceiling.

I have a box of tiles. There is a very small edge around the perimeter. I'm thinking these are the glue up style. If these were drop style then the edge would be 0.25" or more. Am I right?

Asked by: TomS
Ceilume makes several tiles that share the same "Square within a Square" pattern. To avoid confusion, please send a photo of your tile to We'll take a look at get back to you with the tile name and installation type.

Good morning, im looking for decorative cieling tiles to be placed on the underside of my back porch, are these pvc, or a material that can be used outside? Also nailed on and cutable for proper fitting?

Asked by: Matt
All Ceilume ceiling tiles are made from a rigid pvc which is impervious to moisture. The Cambridge tile can be direct mounted and cut to fit. The best way to install our direct mount tiles is to glue them in place; we don't recommend nailing or stapling them as the area you have to work with is very narrow and easily damaged if you get too close to the edge of the tile. Ceilume doesn't recommend using our ceiling tiles in exterior installations. We haven't done cold weather testing to see how our tiles will withstand an exterior installation in cold climates (and Milwaukee definitely qualifies!) and our fear is that if the glue and vinyl expand at different rates, the tiles will fall off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Elevated and Chic We were gifted the Cambridge Ceiling Tile by Ceilume for the renovation of our presentation room at our interior design studio and we couldn't be more in love with how they look! These tiles completely elevated our space and gave our ceiling a chic look that really added to the rest of the space. Installation was super easy and we can't wait to use these tiles in more of our office spaces!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Quality Product I am very pleased with the quality the ceiling tiles. I used the thicker tiles with the insulation for basement remodel. The flexibility of the tiles allowed me to drop the grid a minimal amount (~2.5"). I personally liked the look of using Cambridge tiles flipped upside down on the larger border tiles that had to be cut. The Sales team was very helpful and responsive. A great product and company to work with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use. Look great. I had never used tiles like this before. They are lightweight and easy to cut. They look great. I have received many compliments. These particular tiles that can be placed over existing suspended ceiling tiles allowed me to keep the existing recessed lights.
