Product Overview

Stratford Ceiling Panels are cost-effective, easy-to-use, and our best-selling style. Made from our Feather-Light Series 0.013 in. thick vinyl plastic, they are unlike any ceiling panels you will ever see or feel. You may be surprised by their minimal weight, but their thermoformed design combined with the inherent strength of vinyl makes these tiles rigid, durable, and easy to install and maintain.

The “lume” in Ceilume stands for ILLUMINATION, and with our Transluminous™ Ceiling Tiles we give you three unique ways to let the light shine in, whether you want localized lighting effects or a fully illuminated ceiling. Our clear material is just that. Without pigment or surface texture it allows maximum light transmittance. It passes light like a window pane, but because of our manufacturing process it lacks window clarity, causing some cosmetic imperfections and witness lines to be visible. Place tiles directly beneath lighting fixtures in traditional interiors, or throughout the entirety of your installation for a fully-illuminated ceiling effect.

All of our Feather-Light Series panels are Class A fire rated, 100% recyclable, completely waterproof, Greenguard Gold Certified for indoor air quality, and made in the USA. For the look of plaster or tin, with the flexibility, durability, and versatility of vinyl - look no further!

When installing these in a basement bathroom should insulation somehow be added?

Asked by: Matt44
The Stratford ceiling tile has an NRC of .25. Insulation is not required, but if you'd like to add additional acoustic and thermal insulation, you can add Ceilume's Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation. This will bring the tile's NRC up to .50 and provide an R value of 6.0

Can these support the weight of recessed lights?

Asked by: Christy
All ceiling lights, fans, grilles, speakers, etc must be supported by the ceiling grid or the structure above per the International Building Code. Home Depot offers many different can light brackets to support the weight of the lights on the ceiling grid. You can copy/paste this link into your browser to view their options:

I have a parrot and I'm actually thinking about pudding these tiles on the wall to absorb the sound. Is there any way to put these on a surface without damaging the surface as I am in an apartment

Asked by: JWilla
The Stratford ceiling tile can only be installed in a ceiling grid; it can not be glued to a wall. While we do have about 20 tiles that can be glued to a wall, none of them will provide any significant noise reduction and the installation process would leave quite a bit of clean up when it comes time to remove the tiles from the wall.

Can they be stapled to the ceiling?

Asked by: Simo
The Ceilume Stratford ceiling panel is only suitable for installation in a 1" or 15/16" ceiling grid. The recessed "square within a square" pattern and the lip around the perimeter on the back side of the tile provide the Stratford with a great deal of structural strength but make them unsuitable for staple or glue-up installations.

Could I staple this direct to a wood grid already set up up below my ceiling joists?

Asked by: WillD
Stapling tiles directly to your ceiling joists is difficult due to the uneven spacing of the joists. Ceilume's Stratford ceiling tiles can only be installed in a standard 1" or 15/16" ceiling grid; they can not be glued or stapled to any substrate. Search the internet for Ceiling Link, a direct mount ceiling grid that attaches to the underside of the joists and would allow you to use Ceilume's Stratford tiles.

Can these tiles be installed in a bathroom above a shower?

Asked by: digidenver
Yes, Ceilume's Stratford tiles are made from a thin, rigid vinyl that is impervious to moisture and works well in damp or humid environments. For best results, make sure that your ceiling grid is corrosion resistant as well.

Would I be able to order just 6 of the frosted stratford ceiling tiles? I only need that many to finish out my kitchen. I came up short.

Asked by: Cheyanne
Because all orders are custom manufactured, there is a minimum order size of 25 tiles. For smaller orders, please call at 855.676.5060.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great company to deal with and gorgeous product I purchased the tiles and installed them myself on an existing grid. I’m a 40 something year old woman and did the whole project with the help of my 12 year old daughter in about a day. It’s super easy to cut especially if you can trace the old tiles. The ceiling looks awesome - such an improvement over the dated old tiles. Also- my highest regards to the company. I had a shipping delay due to high shipping volume around Christmas. It was the fault of fed-ex not Ceilume. They were so helpful and even offered to ship out new tiles due to the delay. Very nice and helpful people. I highly recommend this product. Super easy, super gorgeous and super great company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've never installed ceiling tiles so easily as with these tiles, nor have I managed it on my own before. Granted, I was replacing my old tiles so I didn't have to rehang the grid. A ladder, pair of scissors, measuring tape and a marker was all I needed. I had no problems cutting the circle to affix the louver but I thought of my fabric circle cutter. I did try that - it will cut up to a 12" circle. That sliced through the tile with no problem and I will be using it to do the rest of my installation (I still have another 1500 sq ft +/- to go). I have also been impressed with the durability and strength of the tiles. They look great and gave my room a major facelift.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful panels! My contractor, hubby and I all love the beauty of the Stratford ceiling panels. They brighten up my dark dingy basement and updates the ceiling. We installed these panels directly over existing fiber ceiling tiles for added sturdiness. ****I give 4 stars because of how thin and pliable the product is. If these were a few millimeters thicker I'd feel comfortable leaving them as stand alones, but due to it's flimsiness, these work best as covers to the old-school tiles which provide more stability.****

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The ceiling is finished and we love it. I raise Bengal cats and the tiles were used in two kitten rooms in our basement. The rooms look great. This is only the second dropped ceiling my brother has installed and he had no trouble at all. He liked working with the Ceilume tiles over conventional tiles. We didn't lose much ceiling height due to the thinness of the tiles. My uncle and cousin used the same tiles when finishing their basements and told me about them. I'm so glad they did. On a scale from 1-5 I give them a 10! Thanks for this super product. Can't wait until the entire project is finished.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy install, looks great I bought these to update a stained, ugly drop ceiling In our bedroom. Installation was very easy and quick. (I did color match some paint to the panels and painted the grid first). To make the panels a little sturdier, I took the old panels and flipped them upside down (over the years they had begun to sag). I then installed the new panels on top of the old. It added a little stability (these are pretty flimsy) and a sound barrier (I was too cheap to buy the sound panels). I initially thought it would squish and denr the new panels but I did it carefully and was able to remove any dents that occurred. Cutting them to fit the edges was no problem with a scissors. Keeping the old ones so I could cut them to the same size saved me time. Some folks mentioned problems with the panels when opening and closing doors. The added weight of the old panels on top has made this a non issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Upgrade Was happy I was able to order directly from the company. Ceiling tiles are as described very easy to install. Was able to cut tiles with scissors which simplified the project and was able to complete without assistance. I was replacing insulated acoustic tile which I left in place. They lay perfectly on top of new tiles working a insulation. The new ceiling looks beautiful. The appearance is decorative and almost looks like wood. I am very pleased with this product. The look and the ease of installation and would certainly recommend this product and would order from Ceilume again for another project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We are currently waiting for a fire alarm and (2) 6 inch can lights to be installed and wired in. After that she'll be done. We love the ceiling, simple, elegant, and a truly fast and clean installation. As soon as I get it done I will send pictures of the install. We have turned 400+ square feet of basement into a master bedroom and bath that now has hotel like qualities due to the fact that the ceiling looks so great. I will however recommend to anyone that if they go with the white tiles to purchase the white grid tape to match. My order for tape will be coming in soon. We are extremely happy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would rate the Ceilume tiles 5 out of 5. They arrived exactly as described and were a pleasure to install. This was a new installation utilizing Armstrong grid materials. The tiles were very easy to cut with household scissors just as described in you instructions. Truthfully, I was skeptical and expected to go buy heavy duty scissors; but there was no need. As a "do it yourself" project, you couldn't find a better solution. These tiles gave me a very classy finish while minimizing my time investment. I would recommend to anyone as replacements for existing tiles or for a new project.
