What are Ceilume Ceiling Tiles made out of?
All of our ceiling tiles are made from a specially formulated vinyl plastic. The Feather-Light Series is 0.013" thick and

Why is a thin ceiling tile better?
When you look up at your ceiling, what you see is the face of your ceiling tiles and not its thickness. Ceilume Smart Ceiling
Tiles are much lighter, cleaner and easier to install than conventional tin and mineral fiber ceiling tiles. Their 100%
recyclable vinyl construction and nesting design uses 75% less raw material, and they are much more efficient to ship.

How do I know which series (Feather-Light or Signature) to select?
If you are installing your Ceilume Ceiling Tiles directly to your ceiling, than the decision is easy - all of our Signature
Series Ceiling Tiles are directmount! If you plan on installing your tiles in a t-bar grid, the decisino process is a little
more complex as both our Feather-Light and Signature Ceiling Tiles can be used in a suspended ceiling system. To help make
this decision process easier, we have created a Series
Comparison page with a side-by-side rundown of both series. Please visit that page for help in deciding which is right for you!

How do I know which mount (Grid or Direct) to select?
If you will be installing your ceiling tiles in a standard 1" suspended t-bar grid, then you need to purchase from our
selection of grid mount styles. If you plan to adhere your ceiling tiles directly to your wall or ceiling, then you need to
purchase from our selection of direct mount styles.

Are your ceiling tiles available in multiple colors?
We currently have eight different color options: white, translucent, slate, sand, moss, merlot, latte and black. The
translucent grid mount tiles are designed to be installed underneath lighting fixtures, allowing you to have a continuous
style throughout your entire ceiling.

Are Ceilume Smart Ceiling Tiles fire rated?
Both Feather-Light and Signature Ceilume Ceiling Tiles are Class A Fire Rated. In addition to their fire rating, our
Feather-Light Ceiling Tiles are specifically designed and approved for installation under sprinkler systems rated 165°F.
In the event of a fire, the ceiling tiles crinkle up and drop out of the t-bar grid, thus clearing the way for the sprinklers
to do their jobs.

How do your tiles meet the fire code if the sprinkler heads aren’t clear?
Our Feather-Light Ceiling Tiles are specifically designed for installation under sprinkler systems rated 165°F. In the
event of a fire, the ceiling tiles crinkle up and drop out of the t-bar grid, thus clearing the way for the sprinklers to do
their jobs. Ceilume's Feather-Light Ceiling Tiles have been UL approved for this purpose for almost 40 years.
Important Note: No clips, fasteners or impediments of any kind can be used to limit the ceiling tiles' ability to drop
from the suspension system without restraint in the event of a fire. ALWAYS review your installation with the local
authorities before you proceed. See our Ratings &
Approvals page for more information.

Will your ceiling tiles help improve my acoustics?
Ceilume Smart Ceiling Tiles have not been designed to function as acoustical tiles, but they will improve a room's acoustics.
A normal sheet rock ceiling has an NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) rating of around 5%, meaning that
5% of the sound coming in contact with it is absorbed and about 95% is reflected. Our ceiling tiles by themselves have an NRC
of 25% to 30%, so they absorb 5 to 6 times as much sound as sheet rock. For grid mount installations, our AcoustoTherm
Backpanels help increase the ratings to about 35% to 45% depending on the style. Please see our
Test Data Sheet for the NRC ratings for specific ceiling
tiles.

Can your ceiling tiles be used in food preparation and service areas?
Yes. Our ceiling tiles are FDA compliant for use in food preparation and service areas. See our
Ratings & Approvals page for more information.

Will Ceilume Smart Ceiling Tiles lose their shape or discolor over time?
No, you should not see any sagging, warping or discoloration. Our ceiling tiles have been on the market and doing well since
the 1950's, so you can count on them holding up well for years and years. With any ceiling tiles, the 24" x 24" is more stable
than the 24" x 48", so about 90% of all ceiling tile sales sold these days are in the 24" x 24" configuration.
In addition, the vinyl material we use for our tiles has a special ultraviolet inhibitor to prevent discoloration (just like
vinyl siding on a house). And because of their smooth vinyl surface they can easily be cleaned if necessary.

What does "profile" refer to?
Profile refers to the way in which grid mount ceiling tile features project or recess away from the tile in relation to the 1"
t-bar suspended ceiling system. Ceiling tiles can be projected profile (tile features project below the grid), recessed
profile (tile features are recessed up above the grid) or hybrid profile (some tile features project below the grid and some
tile features are recessed above). For a more detailed explanation, please visit our Profile page.

What is "edge trim"?
Edge trim refers to those ceiling tiles that run along the border of a ceiling that are less than full sized. In grid mount
installations, edge trim results when the border grids are less than 24" x 24". In direct mount installations, edge trim
results when the space between the walls and center ceiling tiles is less than 24" x 24". For a more detailed explanation,
please visit our Edge Trim page.
