Can I use can lights with these tiles?

Asked by: etb
Installing can lights above the Madison presents a special challenge because of its deeply recessed center. However, a Ceilume customer sent us a description of how he did it! "I have the ticket for success with the recessed can light fitting over the Madison tile; take the standard 1 1/2 tall t-bar pieces and cut them at just over 2'(26 – 28”), cross them at 90 degrees to the grid bars that make up the existing grid work; almost like building a log cabin. Since it is standard grid material, the can light fittings snap right on to them just like normal. To secure, I will just zip tie them to the existing grids. I did a prototype and the height is perfect for the Madison tile. It clears the tile completely by 1/4'' so sagging or pressing on the tile is a non-issue" Zip ties will work for a residential installation but you'll want to use a metal fasteners for any commercial work that will be subject to a Fire Marshall's inspection.
